Breast Coil offers
enhanced imaging options

The MRI Breast Coil recently added to the Imaging Center is providing new imaging technology that can increase detection rates and give physicians a more detailed and extensive view of breast tissue and anatomy.

“A mammogram is still the best first line exam for breast cancer,” said Eric Tharp director, Radiology. “Breast MRI is the next best step after mammography and is a potential way to confirm or deny cancer without doing a biopsy.”

Breast MRI has become an undisputable tool for detecting breast cancer among hospitals nationwide. The tool offers a different, complimentary method to mammography and ultrasound to detect and help classify lesions in the breast.

Before the Breast MRI was available at the Imaging Center, physicians would have to refer patients to Indianapolis or Ft. Wayne for a breast MRI. Now comprehensive capabilities and technology allow patients to receive a mammogram, breast biopsy, ultrasound and breast MRI in one location.

“Our physicians now have the opportunity to care for individuals and continue treatment from start to finish without the patient leaving our facilities,” said Tharp. “BMH has great physicians doing great work who are excited about the new tools and technological advances.”

The Imaging Center is the leading breast center for Muncie and offers all the tools necessary to treat East Central Indiana. It offers citizens diagnostic and imaging advantages that are available at any top of the line facility in the country.
