John W. Fisher Research Advancement and Venture Fund
Purpose
The purpose of the John W. Fisher Research Advancement and Venture Fund (the “Fund”) is to provide initial grant resources for Ball Memorial Hospital clinical staff, Ball Memorial Hospital-associated medical enterprises, Medical Education teaching staff, or other community health care providers working in conjunction with the BMH Research Department, to explore innovative research opportunities.
Research Criteria
The research must meet some or all of the following criteria:
- the research is unique, innovative and original in scope;
- the research has the potential to advance medical science
- the research has the possibility for commercialization
- the research provides potential patient benefit; and,
- the research is conducted at BMH or in the local medical community under or in conjunction with the BMH Research Department

Research projects involving patients will require review and approval for compliance with federal regulations through the Institutional Review Board of Ball Memorial Hospital. Regulatory approvals must remain active and current while the research is being conducted.
Proposal Selection
Proposals will be evaluated by a Committee designated by the Foundation. The Committee will include a representative of the BMH Foundation, the Vice President of Medical Education and Research, a representative from the Ball Brothers Foundation, and other members appointed by the Board of the BMH Foundation. The Committee shall recommend qualified proposals to the Board of the BMH Foundation. The Board maintains final authority to make grants, but it shall do so only upon the Committee’s recommendation.
A maximum of two grants may be awarded per calendar year (1 Jan - 31 Dec), each grant ranging from a minimum of $1,000 to a maximum of $5,000.
